Canva Not Working? Common Errors & Fixes

First check canvastatus.com for an outage. If Canva is up, close every Canva tab and open a fresh one, update your browser, make sure JavaScript is on, and test in an incognito window to rule out extensions.

Save the design, check canvastatus.com, then download one page at a time in a private window. Premium elements, oversized designs, a single broken page or browser extensions cause most failed downloads.

Canva video downloads stall mostly on long (10+ minute), 60 FPS or element-heavy videos, unfinished uploads and YouTube embeds. Trim or split the video, export at 1080p, replace embeds with MP4s, and check for Canva video-export incidents.

Refresh the editor, then look under Brand Fonts in your Brand Kit. Canva only accepts TTF and OTF uploads, needs a paid plan for font uploads, and rejects fonts whose license doesn't allow embedding.

Background Remover is greyed out on the free plan - it needs Pro, Business, Education or Nonprofits. On paid plans, update the app or use desktop, convert HEIC images to JPG/PNG, and keep batch folders to 50 images or fewer.

Canva converts imported PDFs into editable elements, but scanned PDFs and outlined text come in as images, and unknown fonts get substituted. Upload the font to your Brand Kit first, use the original source file, or OCR scanned PDFs.

Blurry Canva prints almost always come from low-resolution images, not the export button. Use photos of at least 300 DPI at print size, export as PDF Print, and check the PDF proof zoomed in before ordering.

If Canva says it locked the editor because it couldn't save, don't click 'continue editing'. Refresh or reopen the design, and check for extensions, VPN, proxy or firewall blocking Canva's connection.

Canva caps exports per account on a rolling window (reported as 500 downloads per day, 1,000 on Enterprise, and 75 every 5 minutes). Wait for the window to clear, or batch pages into one multi-page download.

Large, element-heavy designs, too many open tabs and apps, and outdated browsers or graphics drivers make Canva lag. Close other tabs, update your browser and OS, split huge designs, and check for slowdown incidents.

In September 2024 Canva moved Teams from a flat $119.99/year for up to 5 people to per-seat pricing, so some teams faced about $500/year. Teams is now closed to new buyers; existing subscribers keep their pricing, and new teams must buy Business at $25/person/month ($250/year).
