Adobe sells Lightroom only by subscription. New users pay $14.99/month for the Lightroom 1TB plan or $19.99/month for Photography 1TB with Photoshop, i.e. $180-240 a year indefinitely. Cancelling means losing the full Develop module and cloud library, so years of edits stay tied to the subscription.
All Adobe subscriptions are annual contracts paid monthly. Canceling before the year ends incurs a 50% fee of remaining payments. Many users report being unaware they signed up for a year-long commitment when paying monthly. Getting refunds requires persistent customer service contact.
The 20GB Photography plan closed to new subscribers in January 2025, so the cheapest Lightroom + Photoshop bundle is now the $19.99/month 1TB plan. Existing 20GB users saw monthly billing rise from $9.99 to $14.99. Photographers who never needed 1TB of cloud storage now pay for it anyway.
From March 20, 2026 Adobe raised the Lightroom 1TB plan from $11.99 to $14.99/month on the annual plan (+25%), the prepaid year from $119.88 to $149.99 and month-to-month from $17.99 to $22.49. Existing subscribers pay the new price at renewal. It follows the January 2025 change that already moved the plan from $9.99 to $11.99.
Newer Lightroom AI features run on Adobe's servers and spend monthly generative credits: Generative Remove, Generative Expand, Topaz upscaling and sharpening, and Firefly video. The Lightroom plan includes 250 credits a month and Photography 1,000. Credits are spent even when the result is unusable, and Lightroom slows these tools down once you run out.
