Supabase Project Paused

Workaround available Dashboard (all platforms) Updated October 21, 2026

Quick answer

Free-plan projects are paused after 7 days of low activity. Click 'Resume project' in the dashboard to bring it back with data intact; upgrade to Pro (or keep it active) to stop it happening.

Most likely fix: Resume the project from the dashboard.

Symptoms

API calls fail, the app can't reach the database, and the dashboard shows the project as Paused; you may receive a pause warning email first.

Why it happens

  • Free plan project had low activity for 7 days
  • More than 2 active free projects in the organization
  • Project left paused too long to restore (over 1 year)

How to fix it

Try these in order — the most common fix is first.

  1. 1. Resume the project from the dashboard

    1. Open supabase.com/dashboard and select your organization
    2. Open the paused project
    3. Click 'Resume project' and confirm
    4. Wait a few minutes for the database to come back online
  2. 2. Upgrade the organization to Pro

    1. Go to Organization Settings > Billing
    2. Change the plan to Pro ($25/month)
    3. Pro, Team and Enterprise projects are never paused for inactivity
  3. 3. Back up free projects yourself

    1. Free projects have no automatic backups
    2. Run 'supabase db dump' regularly or pg_dump via the pooler connection string
    3. Store dumps outside Supabase
