Anytype Not Syncing Between Devices

Workaround available Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android Updated October 21, 2026

Quick answer

If Anytype won't sync, update every device to the latest version from download.anytype.io, check your system clock, and turn off VPN, proxy or firewall. Run the AnySync Netcheck tool if it still can't reach the network.

Most likely fix: Update every device.

Symptoms

Changes made on one device don't show up on another, the sync icon shows an error or offline state, or the status stays on 'syncing' indefinitely.

Why it happens

  • Devices running different or outdated app versions
  • System time more than 2 hours off
  • VPN, proxy, firewall or corporate network blocking the connection
  • Data folder placed inside Google Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive or a network drive
  • Devices on different networks (local-only or self-hosted vs Anytype Network)
  • Files over your storage limit (only files stop syncing, not text)

How to fix it

Try these in order — the most common fix is first.

  1. 1. Update every device

    1. Download the latest version from download.anytype.io or GitHub on desktop
    2. Update the mobile app from the App Store or Google Play
    3. Restart the app on every device
  2. 2. Check your clock and network

    1. Make sure your computer's date and time are correct (set to automatic)
    2. Disable VPN or proxy and try again
    3. Try outside a corporate network, or use your phone as a hotspot for the desktop
  3. 3. Run the AnySync Netcheck tool

    1. Download any-sync-netcheck from github.com/anyproto/any-sync-tools/releases
    2. Run any-sync-netcheck -v
    3. If it reports errors, post the output on community.anytype.io with your VPN, firewall and antivirus details
  4. 4. Move the data folder out of cloud-synced folders

    1. Make sure you have your 12-word Key
    2. Log out, click the gear icon on the login screen and choose a local folder under Vault Data Location
    3. Log back in and let Anytype redownload your Vault
  5. 5. Confirm all devices use the same network mode

    1. Log out, click the gear icon on the onboarding screen and check the Network field
    2. Use the same mode (Anytype, Self-hosted or Local-only) on every device
  6. 6. Nudge a stuck 'syncing' status

    1. Move an object to the bin and empty it, or connect a second device on the same network
    2. Users report this flipped the status to synced; update to the latest version, which includes a fix
