Forgot Ulysses Password (App Locked)

If you locked Ulysses with a password and forgot it, recover it from Keychain Access on the Mac. On iPhone/iPad, send the Password Token from Settings to Ulysses support to get a reset token.

Symptoms

Ulysses asks for its privacy password on launch and you can't remember it.

Why it happens

  • Privacy Protection password set and forgotten
  • Password isn't synced, so each device can have a different one

How to fix it

Try these in order — the most common fix is first.

  1. 1. Recover it from Keychain Access (Mac)

    1. Open Applications > Utilities > Keychain Access
    2. Select the login keychain and search for com.ulyssesapp.mac.Password
    3. Double-click it and tick Show password, then enter your Mac login password
    4. Change or remove the lock in Ulysses > Settings > Privacy

  2. 2. Request a reset token (iPhone/iPad)

    1. Open Settings > Apps > Ulysses > Debug
    2. Copy the Password Token
    3. Email it to help@ulysses.app
    4. Enter the reset token you receive in Ulysses' password field
    5. Set a new password under Library > gear > Privacy Protection
