Bubble Workload Units Running Out Too Fast

Why it happens

  • Unconstrained 'Do a search for' expressions or searches on every page load
  • Recursive backend workflows looping more times than intended
  • Bulk imports or data changes run in one go
  • Frequent API calls or polling from the server
  • Traffic spike or launch campaign

How to fix it

Try these in order — the most common fix is first.

  1. 1. Find what is consuming workload

    1. Open your app in the editor
    2. Go to the Logs tab and open the workload / app metrics view
    3. Sort by activity type and by page or workflow to find the biggest consumers
    4. Check the time chart for one-off spikes versus steady usage

  2. 2. Make searches cheaper

    1. Add constraints to every search instead of filtering results afterwards
    2. Paginate repeating groups so only a few rows load at first
    3. Only load data when the element becomes visible

  3. 3. Fix runaway recursive workflows

    1. In Backend workflows, check each workflow that schedules itself
    2. Add a 'Only when' condition that stops the loop when the list is empty
    3. Test with a small batch before running on the full dataset

  4. 4. Buy a workload tier instead of paying overages

    1. Go to Settings > App plan
    2. Pick a workload tier (200K for $26/mo up to 6M for $539/mo, billed annually)
    3. If you're between tiers, Bubble suggests picking the lower tier and paying overages

    1. Add a custom workload notification at a threshold below 75%
    2. Review the metrics whenever it fires
