Pixelmator Pro Image or Text Blurry After Resizing
Workaround available macOS, iPadOS Updated October 21, 2026
Quick answer
Pixelmator Pro is pixel-based, so scaling a layer or text up stretches its pixels and makes it soft. Design at the final size, scale down rather than up, and sharpen last.
Most likely fix: Create at a larger size and scale down.
Symptoms
Photos, shapes or text look soft or jagged after resizing or export, especially when enlarged or viewed zoomed in.
Why it happens
- Enlarging raster layers beyond their original pixel size
- Text rendered at small pixel sizes and then scaled up
- Repeated resizing or re-saving as JPEG
- Resizing the source document instead of an exported copy
How to fix it
Try these in order — the most common fix is first.
1. Create at a larger size and scale down
- Start new documents at the largest size you'll need
- Scale down for smaller outputs instead of enlarging
2. Upscale with Super Resolution
- If you must enlarge a photo, use Image > ML Super Resolution instead of plain Image Size
3. Sharpen last
- After final resizing, add the Sharpen effect and check the result at 100% zoom
4. Keep the source untouched
- Resize an exported copy, not the original
- To undo a resize, re-enter the original dimensions in Image > Image Size
