Pixelmator Pro Photos Extension Not Showing
Workaround available macOS Updated October 21, 2026
Quick answer
The Pixelmator Pro extension doesn't appear under Image > Edit With. It's under Edit > the Extensions (three dots) button inside Photos. If it's missing there too, update Pixelmator Pro, since past versions broke the extension.
Most likely fix: Open it from the right menu.
Symptoms
You can't find Pixelmator Pro when editing in Apple Photos, or the extension stops loading.
Why it happens
- Looking in Edit With instead of the Extensions button
- Extension broken in an older version (fixed in 2.4.5)
- Photos showing 'Cannot Start Editing' after a flattened save
How to fix it
Try these in order — the most common fix is first.
1. Open it from the right menu
- In Photos, select a photo and click Edit
- Click the Extensions (three dots) button and choose Pixelmator Pro
2. Update and relaunch
- Install the latest Pixelmator Pro
- Quit and reopen Photos
3. Use Edit With for a full round-trip
- Choose Image > Edit With > Pixelmator Pro to open a copy in the full app
