Surfshark Connected but No Internet

Workaround available Windows, macOS, Android, iOS Updated October 21, 2026

Quick answer

If Surfshark shows Connected but nothing loads, or internet stays blocked after disconnecting, it's usually DNS, IPv6 or the kill switch holding traffic after a failed connection. Change DNS, disable IPv6, restart the app and computer, and try another protocol.

Most likely fix: Change your DNS.

Symptoms

Pages never finish loading while connected, or no internet at all after the VPN drops or disconnects.

Why it happens

  • DNS and IP mismatch so connections start but never complete
  • IPv6 traffic not supported by Surfshark
  • Kill switch blocking traffic after a dropped connection (by design)
  • Network adapter not reinitialising after sleep
  • Firewall or antivirus filtering

How to fix it

Try these in order — the most common fix is first.

  1. 1. Change your DNS

    1. Set DNS on the device to 162.252.172.57 and 149.154.159.92
    2. On Windows you can also run ipconfig /flushdns in an admin Command Prompt
    3. Reconnect
  2. 2. Disable IPv6

    1. Turn off IPv6 in the network adapter settings or on the router
    2. Reconnect to Surfshark
  3. 3. Restart the app and computer

    1. Quit Surfshark completely
    2. Restart the computer, especially after sleep or hibernation
    3. Reconnect
  4. 4. Switch server or protocol

    1. Connect to another location
    2. Switch between WireGuard and OpenVPN in Settings > VPN Settings > Protocol
