Netflix NW-2-5 Error or Endless Loading With Surfshark
Workaround available Smart TVs, consoles, Fire TV, Android TV, routers Updated October 21, 2026
Quick answer
NW-2-5 and endlessly loading titles with Surfshark usually come from DNS or router filtering. Change the DNS on the device or router to Surfshark's DNS, turn off router parental controls, and switch the protocol to OpenVPN/UDP.
Most likely fix: Test without the VPN.
Symptoms
Netflix shows error NW-2-5 or titles keep buffering and never start while Surfshark is connected, mostly on TVs and consoles.
Why it happens
- DNS servers that can't resolve Netflix through the tunnel
- Router Parental Controls or Safe browsing filtering traffic
- Protocol unstable on that network
How to fix it
Try these in order — the most common fix is first.
1. Test without the VPN
- Disconnect Surfshark and try Netflix
- If it still fails, the problem is the network or device, not Surfshark
2. Change DNS servers
- On the device, open Settings > Network > Wi-Fi/Ethernet, or log in to your router
- Set DNS to 162.252.172.57 and 149.154.159.92
- Restart the device
3. Turn off router filtering
- Log in to your router
- Disable Parental Controls or Safe browsing if enabled
4. Switch to OpenVPN/UDP
- In Surfshark go to Settings > VPN Settings > Protocol
- Select OpenVPN (UDP)
- Connect to another location and try again
