Vercel Not Deploying After Git Push
Ongoing Web, GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket Updated October 21, 2026
Quick answer
If pushes stop creating Vercel deployments, check the Ignored Build Step, the Vercel GitHub App's repo access, and the commit status for a 'rate limited' message (Hobby allows 100 deployments a day).
Most likely fix: Check the Ignored Build Step.
Symptoms
Pushing to main or a branch creates no new deployment at all, deployments show Canceled/Ignored, or deploy hooks return jobs that stay pending.
Why it happens
- Ignored Build Step command skipping builds
- Vercel GitHub App lost access to the repository
- Hobby daily deployment limit reached (rate limited for 24 hours)
- Fast-forward merge reusing a commit SHA that already deployed
- Production branch setting not matching the branch you push
- Commit author not allowed (Hobby private repo)
How to fix it
Try these in order — the most common fix is first.
1. Check the Ignored Build Step
- Settings > Git > Ignored Build Step
- Set Behavior to Automatic or fix the custom command
- Push again
2. Check GitHub App permissions
- GitHub > Settings > Applications > Installed GitHub Apps > Vercel > Configure
- Make sure the repository is included in repository access
- Reconnect the repo in Vercel Settings > Git if needed
3. Read the commit status on GitHub
- Open the commit on GitHub and check the Vercel status check
- If it says 'Deployment rate limited', wait 24 hours or upgrade to Pro
4. Force a new deployment
- Merge with --no-ff so a new commit SHA is created
- Or click Redeploy in Deployments, or run vercel --prod
- Confirm Settings > Git > Production Branch is the branch you push
This guide also covers
- vercel not deploying on push
- vercel not auto deploying
- vercel github push not triggering deployment
- vercel deployment rate limited
