Vercel Project Paused or Account Blocked
Ongoing Web Updated October 21, 2026
Quick answer
A paused Vercel site usually means Spend Management hit your budget (Pro), a Hobby usage limit was exceeded, or a policy issue such as commercial use on Hobby. Each cause has a different fix; check Billing first, then your email.
Most likely fix: Spend Management pause (Pro).
Symptoms
Visitors see '503: DEPLOYMENT_PAUSED', the dashboard says the project or team is paused, or deployments fail with 'Owner of this deployment has been blocked'.
Why it happens
- Spend Management budget reached with Pause Production Deployments enabled
- Hobby usage limit exceeded (usually a 30-day wait)
- Fair Use or Acceptable Use policy violation, e.g. commercial use on Hobby
- Unpaid invoice or failed payment
How to fix it
Try these in order — the most common fix is first.
1. Spend Management pause (Pro)
- Settings > Billing > Spend Management: raise the budget or turn off pausing
- Open each project and click Resume (raising the budget does not unpause)
2. Hobby limit exceeded
- Check Usage to see which limit was hit
- Wait for the 30-day window or upgrade the team to Pro
- Reduce the usage (bots, images, functions) before resuming
3. Policy pause
- Search your inbox for the email from Vercel with the reason
- Follow the steps in it, or upgrade to Pro if the site is commercial
- Contact Vercel Support with team and project details if no email arrived
4. Billing problem
- Settings > Billing: update the payment method and pay open invoices
