Vercel ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS With Cloudflare
Workaround available Web Updated October 21, 2026
Quick answer
A redirect loop on a Vercel site behind Cloudflare is caused by Cloudflare's SSL mode set to Flexible: Cloudflare calls Vercel over HTTP and Vercel redirects back to HTTPS forever. Set SSL/TLS to Full (or Full strict) or switch the record to DNS only.
Most likely fix: Change Cloudflare SSL mode.
Symptoms
Browser shows 'This page isn't working - redirected you too many times' (ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS) on the custom domain, while the .vercel.app URL loads.
Why it happens
- Cloudflare SSL/TLS mode set to Flexible
- Cloudflare 'Always Use HTTPS' or redirect rules stacking with Vercel redirects
- www/apex redirect configured in both Cloudflare and Vercel
How to fix it
Try these in order — the most common fix is first.
1. Change Cloudflare SSL mode
- Cloudflare dashboard > SSL/TLS > Overview
- Set encryption mode to Full or Full (strict)
- Clear browser cache and test again
2. Use DNS only
- Cloudflare > DNS > Records
- Switch the Vercel record from Proxied (orange) to DNS only (grey)
- Let Vercel handle HTTPS and the CDN
3. Remove duplicate redirects
- Run curl -I -L https://yourdomain.com and look for repeating Location headers
- Keep the www/apex redirect in one place only (Vercel Settings > Domains)
- Disable overlapping Cloudflare redirect rules
This guide also covers
