ClickUp Automations Not Triggering

When a ClickUp automation doesn't fire, open the automation's activity log: it shows whether the trigger never fired, was skipped because a condition wasn't met, or failed on an action. Also check your monthly automation limit.

Symptoms

A rule like 'when status changes, assign to…' doesn't run, runs late, or runs only sometimes.

Why it happens

  • A condition wasn't met, so the run was skipped
  • Required field missing or invalid
  • Monthly automation run limit reached (100 Free, 1,000 Unlimited, 5,000 Business)
  • Action requires a higher plan (webhooks, email, integration actions need Business)
  • Referenced list, user or field was deleted or moved
  • Automations queue in the background and can be delayed under load

How to fix it

Try these in order — the most common fix is first.

  1. 1. Read the automation activity log

    1. Open the Space, Folder or List > Automations
    2. Open the Activity / history tab
    3. Look for 'Condition not met', 'Required field missing or invalid' or failure messages

  2. 2. Check your monthly usage

    1. Open Automations > Manage and check runs used this month
    2. If the limit is reached, automations stop until the next cycle or an upgrade

  3. 3. Verify fields, assignees and locations

    1. Confirm custom fields used in the rule still exist
    2. Check the assignee is still a Workspace member
    3. Re-select destination lists that were moved

  4. 4. Simplify and test

    1. Duplicate the automation with only the trigger and one action
    2. Trigger it manually on a test task
    3. Add conditions back one by one

  5. 5. Check the status page for delays
