Coda "APIs & Cross-doc Syncs Stopping Soon" Doc Size Warning

Workaround available Web Updated October 21, 2026

Quick answer

This warning appears when a doc approaches or exceeds the size at which API, cross-doc and Pack features become unreliable (~125 MB). Coda says limits did not change; it only started warning. Reduce doc size before features actually stop.

Most likely fix: Confirm the size in doc statistics.

Symptoms

A red dot or banner reading "APIs & new Cross-doc syncs stopping soon" or asking you to reduce doc size; in Dec 2025 it was shown to every viewer, since April 2026 it appears in the doc statistics panel.

Why it happens

  • Doc data near or over the ~125 MB API/cross-doc limit
  • Many button columns, conditional formats and cross-doc tables
  • Warnings introduced in Dec 2025, rolled back, and reintroduced in the statistics panel in April 2026

How to fix it

Try these in order — the most common fix is first.

  1. 1. Confirm the size in doc statistics

    1. Open Doc settings > Statistics
    2. Check size and the largest tables and object counts
  2. 2. Shrink the heaviest tables

    1. Remove unused columns, views and conditional formatting
    2. Replace button columns with automations or one canvas button
    3. Archive old rows to a separate doc
  3. 3. Replace cross-doc with webhooks

    1. Remove cross-doc tables you can live without
    2. Use row-based webhooks or automations to push only needed data between docs
  4. 4. Note what does not count

    1. Uploaded files reportedly don't count toward doc size, so deleting attachments won't help
