Why it happens

  • Doc data over ~125 MB uncompressed (schema + data combined), the limit reported by Coda support
  • Button columns and conditional formatting, which are stored per row
  • Cross-doc tables and formulas, which take several times more space than local tables
  • Large JSON payloads from Pack sync tables

How to fix it

Try these in order — the most common fix is first.

  1. 1. Check the doc size

    1. Open Doc settings > Statistics to see size and object counts
    2. Look for size warnings in the statistics panel

  2. 2. Remove button columns and conditional formatting

    1. Replace per-row button columns with a single canvas button or an automation
    2. Delete conditional formatting rules you don't need, especially on large tables

  3. 3. Cut cross-doc references

    1. Remove cross-doc tables you no longer use
    2. Replace cross-doc syncs with row-based webhooks to push only changed rows

  4. 4. Archive or split data

    1. Move old rows to a separate archive doc
    2. Split one 'everything' doc into several smaller docs
    3. Note that deleting rows alone may free little space

  5. 5. Wait for the backup cycle, then contact support

    1. Size changes may not register for syncing until the doc's next automatic backup
    2. If it still fails, contact support so an engineer can check the doc stats
