NordVPN Blocking Websites

Workaround available Windows, macOS, Android, iOS Updated October 21, 2026

Quick answer

Threat Protection sometimes flags safe sites as dangerous (false positives) or slows some sites and apps. Use the Unblock button on the block page, pause Threat Protection to confirm, add security-software exceptions and try another protocol.

Most likely fix: Unblock the site.

Symptoms

A site shows a NordVPN block page, won't load only while connected, or some websites and apps load very slowly.

Why it happens

  • Threat Protection false positive
  • Conflict between Threat Protection and third-party antivirus or firewall
  • Site blocks VPN IP ranges
  • Protocol problems on the current network

How to fix it

Try these in order — the most common fix is first.

  1. 1. Unblock the site

    1. Click Unblock on the NordVPN block page if you trust the site
    2. Or adjust Threat Protection settings in the app instead of turning it off completely
  2. 2. Confirm Threat Protection is the cause

    1. Turn off Threat Protection temporarily and reload the site
    2. If it loads, report the false positive to NordVPN support
  3. 3. Add exceptions in antivirus/firewall

    1. Add NordVPN.exe and nordvpn-service.exe as exceptions
    2. Restart NordVPN
  4. 4. Change protocol or server

    1. Switch to OpenVPN or another protocol in settings
    2. Try a server in another country in case the site blocks that IP
