Plausible WordPress Plugin Not Tracking

Workaround available WordPress Updated October 21, 2026

Quick answer

The official plugin excludes logged-in administrators by default, and its proxy breaks after caching, migrations or cloning. Enable admin tracking to test, then disable, clear caches and re-enable the proxy.

Most likely fix: Track admins while testing.

Symptoms

No visits from your own browsing, stats stopped after moving or cloning the site, invalid token errors, or slow proxy requests.

Why it happens

  • Administrators excluded by default
  • Caching plugin (WP Rocket etc.) serving or altering the script
  • Proxy file path broken after migration or cloning
  • Invalid or wrong-domain plugin token
  • Slow proxy (over 500ms) on some hosts

How to fix it

Try these in order — the most common fix is first.

  1. 1. Track admins while testing

    1. Open the plugin settings
    2. Under 'Track analytics for user roles' enable Administrator
    3. Or test while logged out in a private window
  2. 2. Reset the proxy

    1. Disable the proxy in plugin settings
    2. Clear all caches (WordPress, host, Cloudflare)
    3. Re-enable the proxy
    4. Clear all caches again
  3. 3. Exclude the script from caching plugins

    1. Add the Plausible script URL to WP Rocket's (or your plugin's) JS exclusion list
    2. Purge cache
  4. 4. Fix the plugin token

    1. Open https://plausible.io/YOURDOMAIN/settings/integrations?new_token=WordPress
    2. Create a token (it starts with plausible-plugin-)
    3. Paste it into the plugin's Plugin Token field
  5. 5. Speed up a slow proxy

    1. Copy plausible-proxy-speed-module.php from the plugin's mu-plugin folder
    2. Paste it into wp-content/mu-plugins (create the folder if needed)
