Reflect Markdown Export Missing Images

Workaround available Mac, Web Updated October 21, 2026

Quick answer

Reflect Classic's Markdown export keeps images as remote links instead of bundling the files, and hashed file names can break internal links. To get a clean copy with attachments, export in the 'Reflect Open' format, import it into Reflect Open, and use the resulting folder of Markdown files.

Most likely fix: Export via Reflect Open instead.

Symptoms

The exported Markdown zip has no image files; images point to Firebase URLs; [[links]] between notes don't resolve in Obsidian or other apps; front matter is missing.

Why it happens

  • Classic's Markdown export doesn't bundle assets
  • Exported files use hashed names that don't match note titles
  • No front matter metadata is written

How to fix it

Try these in order — the most common fix is first.

  1. 1. Export via Reflect Open instead

    1. In Classic, go to Settings > Graph > Export and choose the Reflect Open format
    2. Install Reflect Open on Mac and create a graph in a local folder
    3. Import the zip under Settings > Import
    4. Your notes and attachments are now plain Markdown files in that folder
  2. 2. Try the HTML or JSON export

    1. Press Cmd+, and select your graph
    2. Choose HTML zip or Reflect JSON and click Export
    3. Keep it as a full backup alongside the Markdown
  3. 3. Download images before you cancel

    1. While your account is active, open notes with important images
    2. Save them manually, since remote links may stop working later
