Splice Export Stuck (Blue Export Bar Not Moving)

Workaround available iOS, Android Updated October 21, 2026

Quick answer

A stuck blue export bar in Splice is usually caused by a problem clip (GoPro files, media not shot on the phone), speed changes or transitions, iCloud-only media or low storage. Update the app, free space, and remove or convert media one item at a time.

Most likely fix: Update iOS and Splice.

Symptoms

The blue export bar stops progressing and the video never saves to the Camera Roll, or the export restarts and fails again.

Why it happens

  • Outdated iOS/Android or Splice version
  • GoPro files or clips not shot on the device
  • Speed changes or transitions on certain clips
  • Not enough free storage for temporary export files
  • Project media stored only in iCloud
  • VPN or unstable connection

How to fix it

Try these in order — the most common fix is first.

  1. 1. Update iOS and Splice

    1. Open Settings > General > Software Update and install any update
    2. Open the App Store, search Splice and tap Update
    3. Restart the phone and try exporting again
  2. 2. Free up storage and lower export settings

    1. Check Settings > General > iPhone Storage
    2. Keep at least twice the expected video size free
    3. In the Splice share screen, lower resolution or frame rate and export again
  3. 3. Download iCloud media to the device

    1. Open each clip used in the project in the Photos app so it fully downloads
    2. Or turn off Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Photos > Optimize iPhone Storage and choose Download and Keep Originals
  4. 4. Re-add GoPro and outside clips

    1. Remove GoPro files from the timeline and add them again
    2. Convert clips not shot on your phone to another format and re-import them
    3. Try reordering the clips
  5. 5. Remove speed changes and transitions

    1. Reset speed changes on clips
    2. Remove transitions or trim clips slightly and export again
  6. 6. Switch network or turn off VPN

    1. Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data
    2. Disable any VPN and retry the export
  7. 7. Find the faulty clip

    1. Duplicate the project
    2. Remove media one item at a time and try exporting after each removal
    3. Replace or convert the clip that unblocks the export
