Splice Says Not Enough Space to Export (But I Have Plenty)
Workaround available iOS, Android Updated October 21, 2026
Quick answer
Splice needs roughly twice the size of the final video in free storage because it creates temporary files while exporting. Free more space on the phone itself or lower the export resolution and frame rate.
Most likely fix: Free space on the device itself.
Symptoms
Splice shows a not-enough-space message when exporting even though the phone appears to have free storage.
Why it happens
- Export needs about 2x the final file size for temporary files
- Space freed in iCloud does not count as device storage
- High resolution or frame rate settings create larger files
How to fix it
Try these in order — the most common fix is first.
1. Free space on the device itself
- Open Settings > General > iPhone Storage
- Delete or offload large apps and old videos
- Empty Photos > Recently Deleted
- Remember that freeing iCloud space does not free phone storage
2. Lower export resolution and frame rate
- Open the project and tap the share/export button
- Choose a lower resolution (for example 720p) and 30fps
- Export again
3. Restart the phone
- Restart to clear temporary files
- Open Splice and retry the export
