Notion Not Working? Common Errors & Fixes

Notion is usually slow because of heavy databases or long pages, a bloated local cache, or a Notion-side incident. Check the status page, force reload or reset the app, then simplify heavy database views.

Notion's help center confirms databases slow down with many rows, many visible properties, and sorts or filters on text, formula or rollup properties. Hide properties, filter on simple properties and exclude old pages.

A blank, white or endlessly spinning Notion is usually fixed by a force reload, then a full reset of local data, or by unblocking *.notion.com on your network.

When edits don't appear on your other devices, the device is usually offline or blocked from *.notion.com, has offline edits waiting to upload, or has a stale cache. Reconnect, remove the block, then log out and back in.

Notion offline mode only covers pages you mark 'Available offline' in the desktop or mobile app on that device, without subpages, and only the first 50 rows of a database's first view. It never works in a browser.

Notion AI fails for three main reasons: your plan's AI trial is used up (full AI is Business/Enterprise only), an admin disabled AI or credits ran out, or Notion AI is degraded. Check status, your plan, then retry with less selected text.

Mobile crashes and blank pages are usually fixed by updating the app, then deleting and reinstalling it. Notion data is synced to your account, so reinstalling doesn't lose it.

Notion's mobile app is slow mainly on launch and on heavy pages. Update to the latest version (Notion has cut Android launch time by over half), keep home pages light, and download key pages for offline use.

'Cannot save changes' or 'There was an issue persisting your edits' means Notion can't reach its servers or its local storage is broken. Copy your unsaved text, then remove network blocks, log out and in, or reset the app.

If Notion shows 'Offline' or 'Connect to the internet' while your internet works, something on your network is blocking Notion. Disable the VPN, change DNS, or ask IT to unblock *.notion.com.

When Notion shows 'Go online to view this image', the image is fine; a VPN, ad blocker, iCloud Private Relay or network filter is blocking it. Turn those off one by one and reload.

If a Notion PDF export fails it silently falls back to HTML; subpage PDF exports need Business or Enterprise and arrive by email; and Windows can't unzip deeply nested exports. Export smaller pages, use 7-Zip, or print to PDF.

The Free plan caps file uploads at 5 MB. Compress or split the file, link it from cloud storage, or upgrade to a paid plan for larger uploads.

'Rate limit reached, please try again later' appears when you duplicate too much content at once (over about 50,000 blocks per hour). Wait an hour or duplicate smaller pieces.
