Tana 'Cannot Move Nodes Between Different Workspaces'
Workaround available Web, Mac, Windows, Linux Updated October 21, 2026
Quick answer
Tana blocks dragging nodes between workspaces because each workspace has its own permissions. Cut and paste the node, or use Cmd/Ctrl+K > 'Move node to'.
Most likely fix: Use the Move command.
Symptoms
Dragging a node shows 'Cannot move nodes between different workspaces - use move command' or 'Cannot move notes between different shared areas'.
Why it happens
- Workspaces control permissions and settings, so drag-and-drop across them is blocked
How to fix it
Try these in order — the most common fix is first.
1. Use the Move command

- Press Cmd/Ctrl+K and choose 'Move node to'
- Pick the target workspace and location
