Todoist 300 Task Limit Per Project
Ongoing All Updated October 21, 2026
Quick answer
Every Todoist plan, including Pro and Business, caps a project at 300 active tasks (sub-tasks and recurring tasks count) and 20 sections, and the limit can't be raised. Complete, delete or split tasks across projects.
Most likely fix: Split the project.
Symptoms
You can't add more tasks to a project, see a limit warning, or sync fails with a limit message.
Why it happens
- Project reached 300 active tasks including sub-tasks
- Large imports from other apps
- Old uncompleted tasks piling up
How to fix it
Try these in order — the most common fix is first.
1. Split the project
- Create sub-projects or separate projects by area
- Move groups of tasks (in small batches) to the new projects
2. Clear out old tasks
- Complete or delete tasks you no longer need
- Use a filter to find overdue or undated tasks for review
3. Check the sync warning
- If sync stops, click the yellow triangle; it names the limit you hit
