Adobe XD 'There Was a Problem Exporting Your Assets'

Workaround available Windows, macOS Updated October 21, 2026

Quick answer

Exports fail when the target folder already has a file with that name, the folder is read-only, the asset is larger than 16,000 x 16,000 px, or the selection contains invalid objects (empty text, sub-1px paths). Fix the cause or export from a fresh file.

Most likely fix: Export to an empty folder or rename layers.

Symptoms

The export dialog shows 'There was a problem exporting your asset(s)' for one or many assets; single exports may work while batch exports fail.

Why it happens

  • Name conflict with files already in the export folder
  • Read-only or locked destination folder
  • Asset larger than 16,000 x 16,000 pixels
  • Invalid objects: text box with no text, path with a single point, objects under 1x1 px

How to fix it

Try these in order — the most common fix is first.

  1. 1. Export to an empty folder or rename layers

    1. Choose a new, empty folder in the export dialog
    2. Or rename layers that share a name
  2. 2. Check folder permissions

    1. Export to Desktop to test
    2. If that works, fix write permissions on the original folder
  3. 3. Remove invalid objects

    1. Look for empty text boxes, single-point paths and tiny shapes in the selection
    2. Delete them and export again
  4. 4. Reduce the export size

    1. Lower the export scale (e.g. from 3x to 1x) so the asset stays under 16,000 px
  5. 5. Export from a fresh file

    1. Copy the assets into a new XD document
    2. Mark them for export and export one at a time to find the failing one
