How to Open an Adobe XD File in Figma

Workaround available Web, Windows, macOS Updated October 21, 2026

Quick answer

Figma can't open .xd files directly. Install the original fonts, then use the Convertify plugin to import the .xd file into a new page; SVG export is a free fallback but loses effects, pages and prototype links.

Most likely fix: Import with Convertify.

Symptoms

Dragging a .xd file into Figma does nothing or gives an unsupported file error; imported text breaks or layouts shift.

Why it happens

  • Figma has no native .xd importer
  • Missing fonts break imported text
  • Prototype interactions and some effects don't translate

How to fix it

Try these in order — the most common fix is first.

  1. 1. Import with Convertify

    1. Install the XD file's fonts on your computer
    2. Open a new Figma file and run Convertify from Resources > Plugins
    3. Choose 'Import Adobe XD to Figma'
    4. Drop the .xd file into the dropzone; it creates a new page
    5. If text is off, set text layers to Auto height
  2. 2. Export SVGs from XD

    1. In XD select artboards > File > Export > Selected
    2. Choose SVG and export
    3. Drag the SVGs into Figma (layers come through; pages, effects and links don't)
  3. 3. Plan a rebuild for components and prototypes

    1. Recreate components and styles in Figma
    2. Rewire prototype interactions manually
