Bitwarden Not Working? Common Errors & Fixes

Usually the saved login has no or the wrong website URI, the vault is locked, or the browser's own password manager is getting in the way. Fix the URI, unlock the extension, turn on inline suggestions and use Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+L.

Bitwarden must be selected as Android's autofill service, and inline keyboard suggestions only work on Android 11+ with a compatible keyboard. Re-select the service, switch between Inline and Popup display, and enable browser integration for Chrome or Brave.

Most often Apple Passwords (or another manager) is also enabled as an AutoFill provider, or an iOS/app update broke the extension. Make Bitwarden the only AutoFill provider, update, and reinstall if needed.

Browser-extension biometrics (Windows Hello, Touch ID) work through the desktop app. Make sure the desktop app is running and unlocked, toggle browser integration off and on, and re-enable the extension's biometric setting.

Changes are saved to the cloud immediately; the device that looks out of date simply hasn't pulled them. Force a manual sync, confirm you're on the right account and server region, then log out and back in.

Browser extension 2026.5.0 caused slow pages and browser freezes for many Firefox users and some Chrome users. Update to the latest release; if it persists, roll back to an earlier version or temporarily rely on the desktop app.

Accounts without two-step login must confirm new devices with an emailed code. If it never arrives, check spam and your mail provider, approve from a logged-in device by adding two-step login, or ask Bitwarden support to temporarily disable the check.

The save prompt is controlled per device by the 'Ask to add login' option and is often swallowed by the browser's own password manager. Turn the option on, unlock the vault before logging in, and disable the browser's password saving.

Most cases are typos, keyboard layout or email mistakes - or another device still using an old key after a password change. Show the password while typing, check the email and server region, and fully log out and back in on stale devices.

The 2026.4.0 desktop redesign added white space, a narrow details panel, hidden folders and removed copy shortcuts. There is no compact mode yet; workarounds include the web vault, closing side panels and using search and the three-dot menu.
