Bitwarden Not Syncing Between Devices

Workaround available All platforms Updated October 21, 2026

Quick answer

Changes are saved to the cloud immediately; the device that looks out of date simply hasn't pulled them. Force a manual sync, confirm you're on the right account and server region, then log out and back in.

Most likely fix: Force a manual sync.

Symptoms

New or edited items appear on one device but not another, the extension shows an old vault, or the vault looks empty after login.

Why it happens

  • Client hasn't pulled the latest changes
  • Logged into a different account or server region (bitwarden.com vs bitwarden.eu)
  • VPN, content blocker, wrong device date or DNS blocking the connection
  • Bitwarden maintenance or outage

How to fix it

Try these in order — the most common fix is first.

  1. 1. Force a manual sync

    1. Mobile: pull down on the vault, or go to Settings > Vault > Sync now
    2. Extension/desktop: open Settings > Vault > Sync (or File > Sync vault on desktop)
  2. 2. Check the account and region

    1. Log in to the web vault and confirm the item is there
    2. On the stale device, check the email address and the server region selected on the login screen
  3. 3. Log out completely and back in

    1. Use Log out, not Lock, on the stale device
    2. Log in with your master password so the vault is downloaded fresh
  4. 4. Rule out the network

    1. Disable VPN or content blockers temporarily
    2. Check the device date/time is correct
    3. Try another network or public DNS servers
  5. 5. Reinstall the extension or app

    1. Remove the browser extension or app
    2. Reinstall it and log in again
