The 12 Adobe Lightroom problems users hit most often, why they happen, and the fixes that actually work — collected from user reports, forums, and official support docs.
Stuck sync is usually caused by a few photos whose originals are offline or corrupt, or by an upload that a phone never finished. Find those photos in Preferences > Lightroom Sync, relink or delete them, and restart Classic. Rebuilding sync data is a last resort.
Lightroom Classic only syncs collections marked 'Sync with Lightroom', and photos added on your phone download to the folder set in Preferences > Lightroom Sync. If photos don't appear, check that the collection is synced, that the phone finished uploading and that the download location exists.
Most slowness comes from GPU settings, a small or slow Camera Raw cache, a catalog on a slow or cloud-synced drive, or a recent update. Set the GPU to Custom/Auto with current drivers, move the cache and catalog to an internal SSD, turn off automatic XMP writing and optimize the catalog.
Imported presets usually disappear because the profile they depend on wasn't imported, the preset group is hidden, or the file is the wrong format. Import the missing profile, unhide the group in Manage Presets and re-import .xmp files through the Presets panel.
Failed exports usually come from a single problem photo, Content Credentials or a GPU export bug, missing macOS permissions, or a bad release. Test one photo, turn off Content Credentials and GPU export, check folder permissions, and roll back if a new version broke export.
When Lightroom says the catalog is corrupt and can't be repaired, the reliable fix is restoring the latest automatic backup: unzip it, swap it in for the damaged .lrcat (and .lrcat-data) and open it. Classic 15.5+ also checks the .lrcat-data file at startup and offers to repair it.
Denoise is GPU-bound: on a recent GPU it takes seconds per photo, on an older laptop minutes or even 30+ minutes. Update the graphics driver, make sure the dedicated GPU is used, and on Apple silicon update to Classic 15.4+, which runs Denoise on the Neural Engine.
Generative Remove runs on Adobe's servers, so it needs an internet connection and uses generative credits. Bad results usually come from a selection that's too tight or that misses shadows and reflections, or from cropping before removing. Select generously, remove before cropping, and check your connection and credits.
A question mark on a folder or an exclamation mark on a photo means Lightroom Classic can't find the original file: it was moved, renamed or deleted outside Lightroom, or the drive is disconnected. Reconnect the drive or use Find Missing Folder to relink at the highest folder level.
Lightroom mobile caches copies of synced photos and keeps 'Store Locally' albums on the device. Clear the cache in App Settings > Local Storage and turn off Store Locally on albums you don't edit offline. Don't delete the app until everything has synced.
Since Denoise, Raw Details and Super Resolution moved into the Detail panel, their data is stored in the .lrcat-data file next to the catalog. Bulk Denoise can grow it by gigabytes, and the data can't be pruned later, so apply AI enhancements only to keepers.
Several 2026 Classic releases shipped regressions (stuck exports in 15.3.1, a data-loss bug that got 15.4 pulled, silent import failures in 15.5). Update to the latest point release first; if the problem remains, back up the catalog and install the previous version from the Creative Cloud app.
