Lightroom Presets Not Showing After Import
Workaround available Mac, Windows, iOS, Android Updated October 21, 2026
Quick answer
Imported presets usually disappear because the profile they depend on wasn't imported, the preset group is hidden, or the file is the wrong format. Import the missing profile, unhide the group in Manage Presets and re-import .xmp files through the Presets panel.
Most likely fix: Import the missing profile.
Symptoms
You import presets and nothing appears in the Presets panel, some presets in a pack are missing, or presets show on desktop but not on mobile.
Why it happens
- The preset relies on a creative profile you didn't import, so Lightroom silently hides it
- The preset group is hidden in Manage Presets
- The pack is still zipped or in an old .lrtemplate/.dng mobile format
- Presets synced to another Adobe account or sync is paused
- Lightroom needs a restart after import
How to fix it
Try these in order — the most common fix is first.
1. Import the missing profile
- Open the Profile Browser in the Basic panel and click + > Import Profiles
- Select the profile files (.xmp) that came with the preset pack
- Restart Lightroom; presets that depended on it appear
2. Unhide preset groups
- In the Presets panel, click + > Manage Presets
- Check every group you installed
- Make sure 'Show Partially Compatible Presets' is on in the Presets panel menu if presets appear grey or missing for some photos
3. Re-import the right file type
- Unzip the download first
- In the Presets panel click + > Import Presets and select the .xmp files (or the .zip directly)
- Use .xmp presets in current Lightroom; old .lrtemplate files are converted on import in Classic
4. Check sync for mobile
- Sign in with the same Adobe ID on desktop and mobile
- Presets imported in Lightroom desktop sync to mobile; Classic presets must be imported into Lightroom desktop or mobile to appear there
5. Restart and select a photo
- Quit and reopen Lightroom
- Open a photo in Develop; some users found presets only appeared after that
