Lightroom Mobile Taking Up Too Much Storage
Workaround available iOS, Android Updated October 21, 2026
Quick answer
Lightroom mobile caches copies of synced photos and keeps 'Store Locally' albums on the device. Clear the cache in App Settings > Local Storage and turn off Store Locally on albums you don't edit offline. Don't delete the app until everything has synced.
Most likely fix: Clear the cache.
Symptoms
Lightroom uses many gigabytes on your iPhone or Android phone, the phone warns about storage, or the app becomes slow.
Why it happens
- Cached copies of synced photos building up
- Albums set to Store Locally, which are protected from cache clearing
- Photos not yet uploaded to the cloud
- Occasional bug leaving 'locally stored copies' with no albums set to store locally
How to fix it
Try these in order — the most common fix is first.
1. Clear the cache
- Open the ... (iOS) or menu (Android) > App Settings > Local Storage
- Tap Clear Cache; it only removes files already backed up to the cloud
2. Turn off Store Locally
- Look for albums with the small download/blue icon
- Tap the album's ... menu and switch off Store Locally
- Clear the cache again
3. Offload albums on Android
- Open App Settings > Local Storage > Manage locally stored albums
- Select albums and tap Offload selected albums
4. Check sync before deleting anything
- Make sure the cloud icon shows everything synced
- Only reinstall the app after confirming all photos are in the cloud
