Basecamp 5: Can't Find Things After the Update

Ongoing Web, Desktop, Mobile Updated October 21, 2026

Quick answer

Basecamp 5 moved everyone to a new layout: notifications and pings live in the 'New For You' sidebar, 'My Stuff' became 'My Bar', and a universal menu replaces many links. There is no way back to Basecamp 4.

Most likely fix: Use My Bar for your own stuff.

Symptoms

After the 2026 update you can't find assignments, bookmarks, notifications or project tools where they used to be, and familiar tasks take more clicks.

Why it happens

  • Basecamp 5 replaced 'My Stuff' with 'My Bar'
  • Notifications and pings moved into the New For You sidebar
  • Many navigation links were folded into a universal menu
  • Docs & Files views were merged into one
  • Everyone was migrated; Basecamp 4 isn't available

How to fix it

Try these in order — the most common fix is first.

  1. 1. Use My Bar for your own stuff

    1. Open My Bar for your assignments, events, bookmarks and private My Notes
  2. 2. Use the New For You sidebar

    1. Notifications and pings are collected there; use Bubble Up to snooze items for later
  3. 3. Use the universal menu

    1. Open the universal menu and its keyboard shortcuts to jump to projects and screens without hunting through links
  4. 4. Use Everything pages

    1. Account-wide Everything pages list messages, documents and comments across all projects
  5. 5. Send specific feedback

    1. Tell Basecamp support exactly which item you can't find; 37signals has been shipping adjustments (e.g. restored the larger project grid on the home screen)
