Basecamp Desktop App Not Working

Workaround available macOS, Windows Updated October 21, 2026

Quick answer

If the Mac or Windows app is blank, stuck or won't sign in, use Basecamp > Reset in the app menu. It clears the app's state and asks you to log in again.

Most likely fix: Reset the app.

Symptoms

The desktop app opens to a blank window, doesn't refresh, shows stale data or won't let you sign in.

Why it happens

  • Corrupt local app data
  • VPN interference
  • Unsupported OS version
  • A Basecamp outage

How to fix it

Try these in order — the most common fix is first.

  1. 1. Reset the app

    1. Click Basecamp in the top-left menu bar
    2. Choose Reset...
    3. Log in again when the app reopens
  2. 2. Check OS requirements

    1. macOS 12 or newer
    2. Windows 10 or newer, 64-bit (x64)
  3. 3. Rule out VPN and outages

    1. Turn off your VPN
    2. Check status.basecamp.com or the @37signals X account for an active incident
