ExpressVPN Not Working on Fire Stick

Workaround available Amazon Fire TV, Fire Stick, Android TV Updated October 21, 2026

Quick answer

On Fire TV the usual culprits are a blocked or mismatched server, a streaming app that cached the old location, an expired subscription or a protocol that doesn't suit your network. Change server, force-stop the streaming app, change protocol and sign out and back in.

Most likely fix: Change server location.

Symptoms

ExpressVPN connects on the Fire Stick but streaming apps still show errors or the wrong library, or the app won't connect or shows an expiry screen.

Why it happens

  • Server IP flagged by the streaming service
  • Streaming app cached your previous location
  • Protocol blocked or slow on your network
  • Expired or unrecognised subscription

How to fix it

Try these in order — the most common fix is first.

  1. 1. Change server location

    1. In the ExpressVPN Fire TV app, select the server location widget on the VPN tab
    2. Pick another location from the Recommended tab and pick a city if prompted
  2. 2. Force-stop the streaming app

    1. Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications
    2. Select the streaming app and choose Force Stop
    3. Reopen it while connected
  3. 3. Change protocol

    1. In the top menu choose Options > Settings > VPN protocol
    2. Pick another protocol and confirm Change Anyway if asked
  4. 4. Sign out and back in

    1. Go to the Options tab and select Sign Out
    2. Sign back in using the QR code or email
    3. If you see an expiry screen, renew on the website first
  5. 5. Restart the Fire Stick

    1. Settings > My Fire TV > Restart
    2. Reconnect ExpressVPN after it boots
