Google Shows Wrong Country With ExpressVPN
Workaround available All browsers Updated October 21, 2026
Quick answer
Google sometimes places you in a different country from your VPN server because IP databases disagree. The VPN is still working; set Google's results region manually in Search settings.
Most likely fix: Set Google's results region.
Symptoms
Connected to, say, France but Google shows UK results or a different country at the bottom of the page; sometimes more CAPTCHAs.
Why it happens
- IP geolocation databases disagree about the server's country
- Google uses browser location or account signals besides IP
How to fix it
Try these in order — the most common fix is first.
1. Set Google's results region
- Open Google Search settings
- Click Other Settings > Language and region
- Under Results region choose your country and click Confirm
- Repeat after clearing cookies, in Incognito or on another device
2. Block browser location sharing
- In browser site settings, deny location access for google.com
- Reload the page while connected to ExpressVPN
