iA Writer Windows Purchase Not Recognized
Workaround available Windows Updated October 21, 2026
Quick answer
iA Writer for Windows now uses iA Account sign-in instead of license keys. If it asks you to start a trial after you paid, you're almost always signed in with a different email than the one you bought with.
Most likely fix: Sign in with the purchase email.
Symptoms
After installing or updating, iA Writer for Windows shows a trial or asks you to buy, even though you purchased it.
Why it happens
- Signed in with a different email than the purchase email (creates a new account)
- Sign-in code email went to spam
- Old license key from before version 2.1
How to fix it
Try these in order — the most common fix is first.
1. Sign in with the purchase email
- Open File > Settings > Account and check the email shown
- Click Sign Out if it's not your purchase email
- Sign in with the purchase email and enter the six-digit code
2. Find the sign-in code
- Check spam and junk folders
- Click Resend in the app
