Jira Attachments Not Uploading
Workaround available Web Updated October 21, 2026
Quick answer
Attachment uploads fail when the session token is stale, the user lacks Create Attachments permission, or attachments are disabled site-wide. Reload the page and check permissions.
Most likely fix: Reload and retry.
Symptoms
Files fail to attach, 'missing token' error, the attach option is missing, or the issue is created but the file isn't.
Why it happens
- Stale session token after logging out/in in another tab
- No 'Create attachments' permission in the project
- Attachments disabled globally by an admin
- Storage limit reached (2 GB on Free)
How to fix it
Try these in order — the most common fix is first.
1. Reload and retry
- Refresh the page (or cancel and reopen the create dialog) and attach again
2. Check permission
- Project settings > Permissions > Create attachments
- Make sure your role or group is included; for JSM portals check Application access too
3. Check site settings and storage
- Admin: confirm attachments are enabled in system settings
- On Free, check whether the 2 GB storage limit is reached
