Discord Krisp Noise Suppression Not Working

Discord's built-in Krisp turns itself off when the CPU is overloaded and is missing in the browser version. Re-enable it in Voice & Video, close heavy apps, and use the desktop app.

Symptoms

Noise Suppression toggle is off or greyed out, Krisp switches off mid-call, background noise still comes through, or Krisp is missing entirely.

Why it happens

  • Discord auto-disables Krisp when the CPU cannot keep up
  • Noise Suppression set to Standard/None instead of Krisp
  • Using Discord in a browser where Krisp is not offered
  • Wrong input device selected in Discord

How to fix it

Try these in order — the most common fix is first.

  1. 1. Turn Krisp back on

    1. In a voice call click the waveform (Noise Suppression) icon next to the disconnect button and switch it on
    2. Or go to User Settings > Voice & Video > Advanced > Noise Suppression and pick Krisp

  2. 2. Reduce CPU load

    1. Close games, browsers tabs and video encoders you don't need
    2. Re-enable Krisp after the load drops - Discord switches it off automatically when the CPU is overloaded

  3. 3. Use the desktop app

    1. Krisp is not available in Discord's browser version
    2. Install and use the Discord desktop app

  4. 4. Check the input device

    1. User Settings > Voice & Video > Input Device
    2. Select your actual microphone instead of Default
    3. Use Let's Check to test

  5. 5. Keep Voice & Video settings open (community workaround)

    1. Some users report Krisp stops turning itself off while the Voice & Video settings page stays open
