Krisp Making Voice Sound Robotic or Cutting Out

Ongoing Windows, macOS, Discord Updated October 21, 2026

Quick answer

Heavy noise suppression can eat parts of your voice. Switch to a lighter noise cancellation mode, stop stacking two noise suppressors, and make sure Krisp is processing the right mic.

Most likely fix: Use a lighter noise cancellation mode.

Symptoms

Others say you sound robotic, underwater or in a tunnel; words or 's'/'sh' sounds disappear; voice cuts out when you speak quietly.

Why it happens

  • Maximum suppression strength removes speech along with noise
  • Meeting app's own noise suppression running on top of Krisp
  • Krisp processing a different mic than the call app uses
  • CPU overload causing audio dropouts

How to fix it

Try these in order — the most common fix is first.

  1. 1. Use a lighter noise cancellation mode

    1. Click the Krisp icon > Settings
    2. Choose the Balanced noise cancellation mode
    3. Ask someone on the call to compare
  2. 2. Turn off the meeting app's noise suppression

    1. Zoom: Settings > Audio > Background noise suppression > Low
    2. Teams: Settings > Devices > Noise suppression > Off
    3. Discord: if using the Krisp app, set Discord's Noise Suppression to None
  3. 3. Match the microphone

    1. In the Krisp panel select your physical mic as the source
    2. In the call app select Krisp Microphone
    3. Don't select the physical mic in both places
  4. 4. Free up CPU

    1. Close heavy apps during calls
    2. Toggle Krisp off and on to check whether the problem follows Krisp
