Linear Not Working? Common Errors & Fixes

PRs only link when the Linear issue ID is in the branch name or PR title, or follows a magic word in the PR description or commit. Add the ID (e.g. ENG-123) to the PR title and confirm the repo is connected.

Usually caused by a non-closing magic word ('ref', 'part of'), another linked PR still open, or the team's merge automation set to no action. Use 'Fixes ENG-123' and check Settings > Team > Workflows & automations.

GitHub only reports a PR as ready to merge when reviews or checks are required and all checks pass. Any failing check, even an optional one, blocks it; add branch protection and a review automation.

The GitHub App is installed per organization and one GitHub org can connect to only one Linear workspace. After moving repos or orgs, reinstall the app, reselect repos and reconnect personal accounts.

Check Settings > Account > Notifications: each channel (Desktop, Mobile, Email, Slack) is toggled separately. Browser push isn't supported anymore, so install the desktop app; email is batched and skipped if you already read it in the inbox.

Linear Free allows 250 issues and 2 teams. With more than 250 issues you can't create new ones until you upgrade or get back under the limit. Nothing is deleted.

Linear maps source data to its closest concept and skips what doesn't translate. Re-importing into the same team skips issues already imported; delete the first import before retrying.

Linear links don't preview in Slack when text previews are off, the issue is in a private team, or Linear Asks was installed before the Slack integration. Re-enable previews or reconnect both integrations.

Linear stores data locally (IndexedDB) and syncs in the background. If it's stuck on a syncing/offline spinner, check linearstatus.com, then restart and visit linear.app/refresh; linear.app/reset clears the local database.

Linear posts linkback comments on GitHub PRs and keeps re-linking PRs whose branch contains an issue ID. Turn off linkbacks in the GitHub integration settings and use 'skip ENG-123' to unlink.
