Linear Notifications Not Working

Workaround available Web, macOS, Windows, iOS, Android Updated October 21, 2026

Quick answer

Check Settings > Account > Notifications: each channel (Desktop, Mobile, Email, Slack) is toggled separately. Browser push isn't supported anymore, so install the desktop app; email is batched and skipped if you already read it in the inbox.

Most likely fix: Enable the channel.

Symptoms

No desktop alerts, missing emails, or no notification when an issue is completed.

Why it happens

  • Channel disabled (gray dot) in notification settings
  • Relying on browser notifications, which Linear no longer supports
  • Email digest delayed or skipped because the inbox item was already read
  • Not subscribed to the issue, so completion/cancel events don't notify
  • macOS notifications or badges disabled for the Linear app
  • Over 2,000 open notifications, so old ones were auto-archived

How to fix it

Try these in order — the most common fix is first.

  1. 1. Enable the channel

    1. Go to Settings > Account > Notifications
    2. Click the channel, turn the toggle on and enable the notification groups you need
  2. 2. Install the desktop app

    1. Download the Linear desktop app
    2. Allow notifications for Linear in macOS System Settings > Notifications (enable badges)
  3. 3. Switch email to immediate

    1. In Notification format, choose immediate delivery instead of digest
  4. 4. Subscribe to the issue or a view

    1. Press Shift + S on an issue to subscribe
    2. For status-based alerts, subscribe to a custom view
