Symptoms

A pull request is opened on GitHub but no PR attachment appears on the Linear issue, and the issue status doesn't change.

Why it happens

  • Issue ID missing from branch name, PR title and description
  • ID typed in a PR comment (comments never create links)
  • Wrong team key in the ID
  • Repository not selected in the Linear GitHub App
  • Your personal GitHub account not connected to Linear
  • GitHub org uses an IP allow list that blocks Linear

How to fix it

Try these in order — the most common fix is first.

  1. 1. Put the issue ID in the branch name or PR title

    1. Open the issue in Linear
    2. Press Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + . to copy the git branch name
    3. Create your branch with that name, or add the ID (e.g. ENG-123) to the PR title

  2. 2. Use a magic word in the PR description

    1. Edit the PR description
    2. Add a line like 'Fixes ENG-123' or 'Part of ENG-123'
    3. Save; the attachment should appear on the issue

  3. 3. Check the repo is connected

    1. In Linear go to Settings > Features > Integrations > GitHub
    2. Confirm the repository is listed (or 'All repositories' is selected)
    3. If not, re-open the GitHub App install and add the repo

  4. 4. Connect your personal GitHub account

    1. Go to Settings > Connected accounts
    2. Connect GitHub so your activity maps to your Linear user

  5. 5. Allow Linear through a GitHub IP allow list

    1. In GitHub org settings, enable 'IP allow list configuration for installed GitHub Apps'
    2. Or add Linear's published IP addresses

  6. 6. Reset and reconnect as a last resort

    1. Disconnect the Linear app in GitHub
    2. Open linear.app/reset in your browser
    3. Reconnect GitHub from Linear settings
