Monday.com Automations Not Working

Ongoing Web, Desktop Updated October 21, 2026

Quick answer

Monday.com automations usually stop because the recipe was turned off, a referenced column was deleted, the account hit its monthly action limit, or a loop hit the per-minute rate limit. Check those first, then status.monday.com.

Most likely fix: Check status.monday.com.

Symptoms

An automation that used to fire does nothing, fires late, or works only some of the time; items move without notifications, or reminders never arrive.

Why it happens

  • Automation was deactivated or its board/column was changed
  • A column used in the recipe was deleted or renamed
  • Monthly automation action quota reached (250 on Standard)
  • Per-minute rate limit hit by bulk edits or automation loops
  • Platform incident or peak-hour delays
  • Webhook/API triggers arriving in bursts get queued

How to fix it

Try these in order — the most common fix is first.

  1. 1. Check status.monday.com

    1. Open status.monday.com and look for an active automations/integrations incident
    2. If there was an outage, automations that did not run must be re-triggered manually afterwards
  2. 2. Confirm the recipe is active and intact

    1. Open the board and click Automate
    2. Make sure the automation toggle is on
    3. Open the recipe and re-select any column that shows as missing or blank, then save
  3. 3. Check your monthly action usage

    1. As an admin, open the automations usage view for the account
    2. If you are near or over the plan quota (250 on Standard), reduce automations or upgrade; monday says upgrading is the only way to add actions
  4. 4. Break automation loops and avoid bulk triggers

    1. Look for two recipes that trigger each other (e.g. status change -> move item -> status change)
    2. Avoid bulk-editing hundreds of items at once on boards with automations; split the update into smaller batches
  5. 5. Wait and retry for delayed runs

    1. Delays of minutes are common at peak times; give it time before rebuilding the recipe
    2. Move time-critical steps to Make or Zapier if delays break your process
  6. 6. Contact support with run details

    1. Email support with the automation name, board, expected trigger time and a screenshot of the recipe
    2. Support can't see your boards for privacy reasons, so include screenshots or a screen recording
