Usually either a Trello-side incident (check the status page and community first) or a browser/cache/network problem on your side. A hard refresh or a private window fixes most local cases.

Symptoms
Blank screen, endless spinner, or the error "We're having trouble loading this board"; the board list loads but individual boards don't; desktop app stuck on startup.
Why it happens
- Trello outage or degraded performance (incidents reported in Jan, Feb and May 2026)
- Stale cached version of Trello after an update (chunk-loading errors)
- Browser extensions or corrupted cache/cookies
- Firewall, proxy, VPN or corporate network blocking Trello
- Very large board with too many open cards
How to fix it
Try these in order — the most common fix is first.
1. Check whether Trello is down
- Open trello.status.atlassian.com
- Search the Atlassian Community Trello forum for 'boards not loading' posts from today
- If many users report it, wait — local fixes will not help during an incident (the status page sometimes lags behind reports)
2. Hard-refresh to load the latest Trello version
- Press Ctrl+Shift+R (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+R (Mac)
- Atlassian staff recommend a refresh for chunk-loading errors after an update
3. Open Trello in a private/incognito window
- If it works there, clear cookies and cache for trello.com and atlassian.com
- Disable extensions one by one (ad blockers often interfere)
4. Try another browser, device or the mobile app
- Use the web version if the desktop app is stuck — reinstalling the desktop app often does not help
- Test on mobile data to rule out your network
5. Check firewall, proxy or VPN
- Turn off VPN and retry
- On a work or school network, ask IT to allow trello.com and atlassian.com
6. Reduce board size if only one big board fails
- Archive old cards and lists (see 'Trello Slow or Lagging')
7. Contact Trello support
- Use trello.com/contact and include the exact error, browser/app version and whether teammates are affected
