VSCO Keeps Crashing

Workaround available iOS, Android Updated October 21, 2026

Quick answer

VSCO crashes are usually fixed by updating the app (VSCO ships weekly updates) and your phone's OS. Do not delete and reinstall VSCO — that wipes photos imported into your Studio.

Most likely fix: Update VSCO.

Symptoms

VSCO closes when opening, shows an error on every launch, freezes when loading older videos, or crashes in AI Lab or when editing very large images.

Why it happens

  • Outdated VSCO app version
  • Outdated iOS or Android version
  • Very large images (200 MB+) or AI Lab edits on older builds
  • Jailbroken or rooted device (not supported)

How to fix it

Try these in order — the most common fix is first.

  1. 1. Update VSCO

    1. Open the App Store or Google Play
    2. Search for VSCO and tap Update
    3. Reopen VSCO
  2. 2. Update your phone's operating system

    1. iPhone: Settings > General > Software Update
    2. Android: Settings > System > Software update
    3. Restart the phone after updating
  3. 3. Back up before trying anything drastic

    1. Do NOT delete and reinstall the app — Studio images live only on the device
    2. Turn on iCloud Backup (Settings > [your name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup) or back up Android via Google before troubleshooting further
  4. 4. Send a screen recording to VSCO Support

    1. Record the crash with the built-in screen recorder
    2. In VSCO open the Global Menu > Settings > Support and submit a ticket with the recording, device model and app version
