VSCO Export Quality Low or File Size Smaller
Ongoing iOS, Android Updated October 21, 2026
Quick answer
VSCO exports keep the original pixel dimensions but compress the file, so a 3 MB photo can export at 1.5-2 MB. There is no export size setting on mobile; VSCO says prints above about 5x7 inches may look soft.
Most likely fix: Check the actual dimensions.
Symptoms
Exported files are noticeably smaller than originals, or prints and zoomed-in views look softer than expected.
Why it happens
- iOS/Android image processing compresses exports
- Mobile app offers only one export size
- Low-resolution source images (screenshots, social downloads)
How to fix it
Try these in order — the most common fix is first.
1. Check the actual dimensions
- Open the exported file's info in Photos
- Compare pixel dimensions with the original — they should match
- View at 100% zoom before judging sharpness
2. Use higher-resolution sources for print
- Keep phone prints to about 5x7 inches
- For larger prints, shoot with a higher-megapixel camera or edit in a desktop editor
