1Password Not Working? Common Errors & Fixes

Usually the extension has lost its connection to the desktop app, the saved login has the wrong website address, or the page uses an unusual form. Unlock the app, check the item's URL, and fill manually from the extension once.

The extension can't talk to the desktop app, so it won't unlock with the app or Touch ID/Windows Hello. Turn on 'Connect with 1Password in the browser' in the app, toggle integration in the extension, then fully quit and reopen both.

Biometric unlock stops after updates, restarts or when the app's periodic password reminder is due. Update 1Password, re-enable biometrics in the app and OS, and enter your account password once to re-arm it.

Most sync failures come from items saved in a local (non-account) vault, being signed in to different accounts, or a pending 2FA/network issue. Confirm every device uses the same 1Password account and check 1Password.com in a browser.

Passkey save failures are usually version bugs in 1Password, the browser or the OS. Update the 1Password app, extension and OS, and make sure the browser's own passkey prompt isn't taking over.

The Safari extension often loses its connection to the Mac app, especially after macOS or Safari updates. Fully quit 1Password and Safari and reopen them; if it keeps recurring, clear Safari history or try a new Safari profile.

On Android, autofill fails when 1Password isn't the selected autofill service or when battery optimization kills it. Re-select 1Password as the autofill service and exempt it from battery restrictions.

The extension locks when it loses its link to the desktop app or after browser/extension updates. Install and unlock the desktop app, enable the browser connection, toggle integration, and restart everything.

On a new device the sign-in fails if the sign-in address, email, Secret Key or account password is slightly off. Use the right sign-in address, type everything by hand, and copy the Secret Key from a device that's still signed in.

1Password 8 (Electron) can spike CPU or freeze, often tied to Universal Autofill or the browser integration. Update, disable hardware acceleration and, if needed, fully reinstall the app.
