Capacities Export Missing Images or Files
Workaround available Windows, Mac, Linux, Web, iOS, Android Updated October 21, 2026
Quick answer
Capacities can only export media that's stored on your device. Set Settings > Offline & Sync > Media loading to 'Everything', let media download, then export again. This mostly affects the browser version, which defaults to 'Required only'.
Most likely fix: Download all media first.
Symptoms
Markdown export or full backup contains notes but images, PDFs or other attachments are missing.
Why it happens
- Media loading set to 'Required only' (browser default)
- Media not finished downloading
- On mobile, media downloads only over WiFi
How to fix it
Try these in order — the most common fix is first.
1. Download all media first
- Go to Settings > Offline & Sync
- Set Media loading to 'Everything'
- Wait for the media download to finish (on mobile, connect to WiFi)
2. Export from the desktop app
- Use the desktop app, which downloads all media by default
- Go to Settings > Full Export > Manual Full Export and run the export
3. Check the downloads folder
- If no save dialog appeared on desktop, check your downloads folder for the zip
