Capacities Version Conflict Pop-Up

Workaround available Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android, Web Updated October 21, 2026

Quick answer

A version conflict appears when a note was edited offline and differs from the server copy. Capacities asks you to pick one, and the other version is permanently deleted, so compare word counts or copy the Markdown before choosing.

Most likely fix: Compare before choosing.

Symptoms

A pop-up asks you to choose between the local version and the server version of a note.

Why it happens

  • The same note was edited on two devices while one was offline
  • Edits made before a device finished syncing

How to fix it

Try these in order — the most common fix is first.

  1. 1. Compare before choosing

    1. Check the word count of each version
    2. Open the preview of each
    3. Copy the Markdown of the version you'll discard and paste it somewhere safe
  2. 2. Merge manually

    1. Keep the more complete version
    2. Paste the copied text from the other version back into the note
  3. 3. Prevent future conflicts

    1. Wait for the sync spinner to finish before closing the app
    2. Let a device fully sync after reconnecting before editing
