Dashlane can't reset or reveal your master password. You can recover only with a recovery key, biometric recovery or admin-assisted recovery set up beforehand; otherwise you must reset the account and lose your data.

How to fix it

Try these in order — the most common fix is first.

  1. 1. Wait out the lock and try again

    1. After several wrong attempts, wait a few minutes
    2. Check Caps Lock and keyboard layout, then try again

  2. 2. Use biometric recovery on a phone

    1. If you enabled biometric recovery on a mobile device, open Dashlane there
    2. Choose the forgot-password option and follow the biometric prompt to set a new master password

  3. 3. Use your account recovery key

    1. On the login screen choose the forgot-password option
    2. Enter your 28-character recovery key
    3. Set a new master password, then generate a new recovery key (each key works once)

  4. 4. Ask your admin (business plans)

    1. If your company enabled admin-assisted recovery, request recovery from the login screen
    2. Your admin approves it from the Admin Console

  5. 5. Last resort: reset the account

    1. If no recovery method exists, reset the account from the login screen
    2. This deletes all stored data; you start with an empty vault
